Some Street Lights To Be Switched Off From Midnight to 5 AM

Thanks to Cllr Bill Chapman (Surrey County Council) for sharing this important news.

Extreme financial pressures on Surrey County Council is forcing it to switch-off some street lights from midnight until 5 am.

The timetable for implementation can be found at: Part Night Lighting Programme

You can download a link to all the streets in Surrey Heath that will be affected: Part Night Lighting Programme - Phase 1 - Surrey Heath

You’ll see the lights in Surrey Heath are due to start going off from 1st December in what will be a staggered schedule.

There are some good FAQs covering the concerns and suggestions that people have had:

www.surreycc.gov.uk/roads-and-transport/road-maintenance-and-cleaning/street-lights-traffic-signals-and-signs/street-lights/part-night-streetlighting-consultation

This also gives information on how the decision is taken to switch lights off – essentially each road gets a safety assessment, in which the police are involved.
